Angels Spring Training 2018

My dad and I went to see Angels Spring Training at Tempe Diablo Stadium. We woke up at 4:30 AM to catch our flight which boarded at 6:15. The flight only lasted 55 minutes. When we arrived, my dad and I took a Lyft to our hotel. It was a Courtyard Marriot. The Courtyard was finished in 2017.

We didn’t know what we would do on Saturday, so we went to see Shohei Otani pitch. He is known as the Babe Ruth of Japan. Before the game, there was a live band.

They played “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

There was a lot of Japenese media,  and they televised the game in Japan.

These are just a few of the many people that were at Tempe Diablo Stadium from Japan.

Otani is pitching in the picture below.

It might be hard to see, but Otani is pitching.

When he walked onto the field, Otani had a translator because he can’t speak much English.

The translator is right behind Otani.

Since it was Spring Training, they weren’t as strict about seating. We never even sat in the seats we bought. Passing the concession stand, there were ladies who sang “Hot Dog.” That probably did generate more sales than normal.

Otani wasn’t as good as everyone thought he would be. That might be because he needs to get used to his team. The Angels ended up winning that game. It was against the Brewers.

There was another one the next day against the Padres.

We arrived at the game early, so not many people were there.

Otani didn’t pitch that game, though. The Angels still won. We met some of our friends at that game. They had to leave after the third inning.

Going to Arizona was fun even though I was only there for three days.

Vacation to Arizona: Day Two

If you don’t already know, I went to Arizona. On day two, we went to Angels Spring Training at Tempe Diablo Stadium.

The Angels were playing the Diamondbacks. Our friends, Blane and Makela, were there. We got seats in the Party Patio. It has free hot dogs, hamburgers, salad and drinks. Later, they brought out dessert.

In the first inning, the Diamondbacks didn’t score. When the Angels were up, Kole Calhoun hit a single and then Albert Pujols hit a two run home run. The Angels scored two more that inning. About halfway through the game, the Angels were winning seven to one. The Diamondbacks tried to make a comeback by scoring three more runs. Fortunately, it didn’t work. I do not mean to offend any Diamondbacks fans, but I was glad the Angels won. That day was very fun.

Angels Night at the Honda Center

The 25th of January was Angels Night at the Honda Center. The sad fact was that the Ducks lost 4-0 to the Edmonton Oilers. It was still fun, though. We arrived very early. There was a tent giving out free Ducks shirts. The shirts were size large or X-large.

They had an Angels logo on the sleeve. The Honda Center, I discovered, is very nice. There is a lot of marble. It also doesn’t feel as packed as some stadiums do. They started practicing early with about 50 pucks. We were very high up.

The Oilers scored their first goal in the second period. They scored 3 in the 3rd period. Kids played hockey during the first intermission. During the second intermission, we went to get hot dogs. I got a picture with a cardboard Ducks player.

It was very fun despite the fact that the Ducks lost.

Touring Angel Stadium

We had a private tour of Angel Stadium with a group of friends.

group-shot-mickeyWhile outside we learned that Angel Stadium and Fenway Park, to list two, each have a Mickey Mouse because they won a World Series. We started at the 2002 World Series Case. Then the group went up the elevators. Floor 2 was almost employees only.press-room Our tour guide told us that her favorite time in the press conference room was during the drafting. We went to the FOX sports press box. Finally, we went to the Gene Autry Suite. It had a real Rod Carew jersey! Then we took the elevator down to the visiting team room. It was cool, but from what we heard the Angels room is nicer. Then came the best part… We went to the Angels dugout!dugout-group2 After the tour we bought some hats in the gift shop. Both the Angel Stadium and Fenway Park tours were amazing.

Touring Fenway Park

On our trip to New England we toured Fenway Park. It is home of the Red Sox.They have the oldest Major League stadium. fenway-park-cute-but-sarah-belly

We started at the bottom and made our way to the seats. We walked around to the earliest chairs from the stadium and sat in them. They were made of wood! fenway-park-seats

After that, we saw the room where they got ready for the game. Both teams shared the room so there were brawls! Then, we went to the seats in the Green Monster which is their mascot. They are the best-rated seats of the MLB stadiums. Next, we saw the reporters’ box. Finally, we saw this seat where Ted Williams, who is the greatest baseball player of all time, hit the farthest home run in Fenway Parkfenway-park-great-pic-sport.

After the tour, we were allowed to go into the season ticket holders only museum.fenway-park-war

It has all the Cy Young and MVP awards and many more things.

After we left the stadium, they had a  statue of some of the most important Red Sox  in history.
